THINGS TO LOVE

  • Glamping Cabins

A peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, nestled in the beautiful countryside of East Yorkshire. The idyllic location was perfect for our childfree weekend, as parents we need to recharge and Wold Escapes Driffield was the perfect setting for a relaxing getaway.

April 2021 saw the opening of four eco glamping cabins at Wold Escapes, a 5th following in 2022 and the newest cabins Waterlily and Queen Bee opening in 2024. Glamping has become popular in recent years because it offers the perfect blend of luxury and outdoor adventure. You can experience the beauty of nature without sacrificing comfort while sleeping in stylish accommodation. Glamping also appeals to those who want to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and instead relax in a peaceful environment.

Queen Bee Interior

We stayed in Queen Bee, located at the edge of the plot with open views of farmland and in front of a wildflower meadow. This cabin, along with Waterlily is brand new and slightly larger with a separate bedroom.  They each sleep two people with a double bed, and provide all the comforts of home including:

  • Ensuite Shower Room
  • Fully-Equipped Kitchen & Barbecue
  • Comfortable Living Area: including a Sofa, table and chairs
  • Private Decking with Outdoor seating area and a hot tub under a canopy.

Queen Bee cabin was the perfect size, it felt like a home from home with everything you need. We used the kitchen to make breakfast and the bbq area for tea, followed by toasting marshmallows for s’mores.

Hot Tub Views

We enjoyed the view from our private hot tub and were lucky enough to experience the Northern Lights from our patio. The remote location has no light pollution, leaving a clear view of the night sky. Having travelled abroad in search of the northern lights and failing to see them, I was in awe of the night sky and this made it a special memorable weekend.

View of the Northern Lights

We also had access to Waterlily before the first guests arrived, this cabin is similar to Queen Bee sleeping 2 with a comfortable double bed, sofa, a spacious en-suite shower room, cooking facilities (including a hob, combination oven, fridge, toaster, kettle and various cooking utensils), freeview TV and high-speed Wi-Fi.

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU

The cabins include all the kitchen essentials including plates, glasses, pans, tin openers and a bottle opener.

You will need to bring:

  • Food & Drink (unless you wish to pre-order any of the food packages).
  • Charcoal (available at the local garage or we found a Tesco nearby)
  • Wellies of walking boots for walking across the farmland
  • Slippers to feel homely and keep the inside of the cabin clean
  • Bikes for exploring the local bike trails (undercover secure bike storage on site)
  • Swimming costume for the hot tub (I took a couple rather than wait for one to dry out)
  • Marshmallows and Chocolate digestives for the perfect s’mores

THINGS TO DO NEAR WOLD ESCAPES

Wold escapes is situated within acres of private farmland and guests have exclusive access to private footpaths which run across the land and encompasses a chalk stream. Chalk streams are globally rare and their environment supports a high number of species, these habitats are sometimes described as “England’s rainforests” and are home to wildlife including brown trout, herons, barn owls, stoats, water voles, newts and frogs.

On site is The Yorkshire Wolds Cookery School, they offer a range of courses as well as bespoke packages for your own party. Seasonal Yoga retreats are also hosted by New Moon. Further details are available here

Here are my top 3 places to visit nearby:

  • Dalby Forest – walking and cycle trails, playgrounds and GO Ape
  • Castle Howard – one of Britain’s finest historic houses with beautiful gardens and Skef Island (children’s wooden playground)
  • Historic City of York – with Roman roots and a Viking past, walk the city walls, explore the cobbled streets or take a scenic river cruise.

If you are looking to escape the daily grind, Wold Escapes is the perfect place to unwind and reset. I felt so refreshed switching off for a couple of days and waking up to the beautiful views in front of me rather than picking up my phone. I do love a hot tub and spent a lot of time staring into the distance collecting my thoughts and reading my book. Something I didn’t know I was in need of, if it wasn’t for the kids I would have happily extended our stay. Next time the Boys can come with us as Wold Escapes caters for families and couples.

I have a Highlight over on my Instagram @Lifeofamumsylawyer with videos and stories detailing our stay if you would like to see more.
