Breathe With Baby Retreat

I had never thought of attending a Mum and Baby Retreat, so when I saw there was one not too far from me I decided it would be the perfect opportunity to spend a bit of one on one time with Myles. I also thought it would be good for my mental health to recharge and step back from daily life to have some time out.

I was nervous about taking Myles away on my own for two nights, something that didn’t even bother me before having him. But once you have children everything seems so much more of an effort, we have to start getting ready about an hour before we need to leave and it’s like a military operation.

The Retreat was at Foxholes Farm on the outskirts of the Peak District, it was a 50 minute journey and we arrived without any dramas. The drive there was beautiful, we were high up in the countryside and could see rolling hills on either side. Upon arrival we were met by our lovely host Henrietta, she showed us to our cottage and looked after Myles while I unloaded the car.

Foxholes Farm consists of five individual self catering holiday cottages in the converted courtyard building of a Grade II listed castellated folly. The views were tranquil and I instantly felt peaceful, there’s just something about the quiet countryside that makes me feel at ease.

Although I did no cooking there were full cooking facilities and a lounge to relax in away from the main cottage, where we all met for activities and meal times. Perfect for being away with a baby, the tommee tippee perfect prep machine came with us so it was like a home from home.

All meals were provided and cooked in the main cottage. There was a good variety of options and my personal favourite was the Caribbean chicken and chickpeas (not normally a fan but they were so tasty!). I enjoyed several cups of tea and biscuits, chocolate digestive being my absolute favourite.

As babies do, Myles decided to cry when It was feeding time but our lovely host Henrietta offered to look after him while I refuelled. One lunch time he was sleeping so she brought a plate of food to my cottage! It was nice to have some help, as a new mum you want to do everything and do turn down help but sometimes you need to accept it and give yourself a break.

I always say you need to fill up your own cup before you can share it with others.

There were preplanned activities and some down time in between for the babies to rest. My favourite was Baby Yoga, Myles loved the music and actions, especially Grand Old Duke of York. I loved seeing him smile and communicating, it was good for his development.

Baby yoga We also did baby massage, which we have done before so we knew what to expect and all the babies were relaxed. We went for a countryside walk, I took my Baby Bjorn Carrier and enjoyed getting some fresh air. I didn’t enjoy the walk back, it was up hill and I realised how unfit I am! But Myles loved looking round and met some moo cows along the way.

Us mums got a pamper, I enjoyed a facial and foot spa. I don’t even have time to paint my nails at the moment so it was nice to have a little pamper. We discussed our birth stories, which were all different and wonderful to hear. A good mix overall to keep us entertained but not too much to tire us out as this was a Retreat after all to escape the daily routine.
